How to Tell if Your Engagement Session Location isn’t the Right Fit

Wedding Tips

The biggest mistake I see?

Choosing locations that don’t match your wedding story.

Like…

You’re getting married at a rustic barn, but your engagement photos are at city hall.

Or you fall in love with a beautiful spot that’s constantly crowded, has harsh lighting, or needs tricky permits to shoot there.

All those little factors end up shaping how your gallery feels.

BUT…The best photos always come from sessions that are true to your story…not just trending on Pinterest (and they should make sense next to your wedding day photos).

When I help couples plan, we start with their wedding vision and work backwards.

If you’re getting married in the city, what makes sense for your engagement session?

Maybe your wedding day already has that downtown skyline moment, so we head to the beach instead and still keep the city in the background.

Or maybe your favorite bar or restaurant can’t fit into the wedding timeline… so we shoot there for engagement and save your outdoor portraits for the big day.

The goal is for your engagement session and wedding day to feel like two chapters of the same story… connected, intentional, and true to who you actually are.

So when you’re choosing your engagement location, ask yourself…how do I want our full story to look when it’s all said and done?

And if you want a photographer who helps you figure all that out… from location ideas to timing to making sure your photos actually feel like you… I’d love to help you plan it.
